The Enquiry @ IMMA, Friday July 15th, 4pm-5.30pm
The Enquiry (Jeanette Doyle, Jennie Guy, Fiona Hallinan, Emer Lynch and Kate Strain) invite you to IMMA on Friday July 15th, for an event designed to perform recent research into the immaterial. Beginning in the old bookshop (downstairs beside the cafe) at 4pm you will be welcomed with a warm drink and specially prepared readings/printed matter. At 4:30pm we’ll move to the lecture room for screenings and
The event will come to a close at 5:30pm.
This presentation of ideas is informed by Jean-François Lyotard’s construction of ‘immateriality’ in ‘The InHuman: Reflections on Time’ (1988) and how this relates to earlier consideration of ‘dematerialization’.
“The matter which I am talking about is ‘immaterial’ an-objectable because it can only ‘take place’ or find its occasion at the price of suspending […] active powers of the mind” (Lyotard: 1988, 140).
The Enquiry is a seminar group affiliated with GradCAM, The Graduate School for Creative Arts and Media in Dublin and hosted by the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
We would like to thank Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick and Lisa Moran.
